I think that the most difficult thing of being a good interpreter is not just about speaking good English. Speaking English well is the first step to understand our clients. However, as an experienced interpreter, I think what we need to ask our clients first before we work is about what our clients want to achieve. For example, I once worked for a decoration company and the CEO of this decoration company wants to source good products in Chinese factories. In many cases, some people in these factories speak English but he still needed me because he wanted me to help him look around in the factories and talk with he employees there who speak Chinese to help him collect information of the factory. This is what i helped him to do so he ended up choosing a very good factory. I think that being a good interpreter means that we help our clients reach their goals and protect their interests with our knowledge and skills.
